A cannon in the courtyard
8 March 2010 in Music, PoliticsDe André is another of the prominent members from the group of legendary Italian songwriters, a singer-songwriter who already has his deserved place in the history books. Just to make an example, his last album “Anime salve” (Saved souls) – a real masterpiece of music – featured a song, the last one in the tracklist, with words such as “the majority stands, like a illness, like a misfortune, like anesthesia”. It was the year 1996, and fourteen years later such words are still fitting like a velvet glove to describe the ongoing situation in Italy. And in such a situation we can cite De André again, by saying all we can do is to get ready to have “a cannon in the courtyard” against the “terrifying peace” imposed by the dictatorship of the majority.
