Solomon Burke, 1940-2010

12 October 2010 in Music

Here we are, back again for a little homage to Solomon Burke, the King of rock’n'soul who left our world in a perfect on-the-road fashion, passing away on the flight that was bringing him to Amsterdam for a sold out concert where he was expected to perform together with the Dutch band De Dijk. He was definitely one of the last few remaining top-class musicians, the ones who made music history on their own. Together with band De Dijk, Burke had just released days ago his final albumq: Hold On Tight, 12 bluesy songs, 11 of them being originally in Dutch but translated for such occasion. Classy music for gourmets, who deserves be mentioned and saluted. The song I am posting here comes actually from such album, and it is called What a Woman (original Dutch title: “Wat een Vrouw” – I have to say it sounds way better in English!). Greetings!

Eclipse

There is no dark side of the moon really...
All that you touch, all that you see
All that you taste, all you feel.
All that you love, all that you hate
All you distrust, all you save.
All that you give, all that you deal
All that you buy, beg, borrow or steal.
All you create, all you destroy
All that you do, all that you say.
All that you eat and everyone you meet
All that you slight and everyone you fight.
All that is now, all that is gone
All that's to come and everything
under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
