October ideas

As you have probably noted, I hardly write here. There’s a lack of time, true, but also of interest in doing so. I am trying to find myself lately in the recent weeks in order to realize what I really want to do; in the coming months I will be called to take a very important decision regarding my future, and I have to admit I have different cards on the table but no really convincing one at the moment. In the meantime I just keep getting my living by spending eight long hours a day in front of a PC, pretending that everything is alright. At this real moment I do not think I would be able to stand this one more year, but still – again – we will see.
So, the next stops in my personal route are juicy and interesting: on Thursday I will (obviously) attend the concert of Nick Cave here in Groningen. From 11 to 14 November I will finally go to Berlin, that is one of those cities that I always deeply wanted to visit in my life. And I will probably bring my guitar at my side, because – well, you never know. I am slowly approaching my thirties and this little part of my life is leading me to an interior journey where art, music, culture easily win over reason, algorithms and the centripetal forces of modernity.
About my music, I finally have ten songs ready to be recorded. The new album will be significantly named A List of Things and will probably be finished sometime in 2011. It is indeed a list of things, like unsorted dirty socks all around the floor that smell like life. In there, you can find everything from my refusal of a modern life all-work-and-consumism to the Dutch rain, so there’s actually nothing missing. I wrote the lyrics for those songs during my journeys around Europe on a red Moleskine agenda and I have to admit I am a bit afraid to record them: they sound pretty intimate and personal and I think I will have to jump a sort of mental barrier where I currently lay behind before to start with Phase Two. I also have a early version of the cover for the album. But I have no idea at all about how the album would sound like: I have bought a classical guitar to compose the music for all my new songs, and a MIDI keyboard in order to provide wider arrangements, so the whole thing might require a time longer than usual and I really cannot predict at the moment what sort of songs they will be in the end. When I made Patterns I had started out with a list of songs supposed to be based on my 12-string acoustic guitar, but then it ended up as an album with high usage of electric guitars and EBow, so I would rather not to make any kind of predictions.
Anything else: in case you do not know, it’s a few weeks I have started again with my second passion, that is football. This time (obviously) not as a coach, but instead writing articles about Dutch football for the Italian edition of Goal.com. When I was a kid I really liked to write about football, so let’s say it is a little step back to my past usages. Links to my articles may be found either at Goal.com itself or via Google, for instance here.
That’s all folks. Don’t ask me to comment about the Italian situation, I am not keen to do that. Italy is in a state of irreversible coma, and the Italians have thrown their brains out into the dumping ground, so for all I care I have no intention to come back as long as things won’t change for real. Time to go back to oblivion, see ya next time. Ciao.
