Farewell to Monicelli
30 November 2010 in Whatever“What is genius? It is fantasy, intuition, decision and execution speed..”
Here’s a few words to remember Mario Monicelli, who today decided to leave this world at the age of 95. I wanna think he decided to die and do by himself before somebody else might have forced him, against his own willingness, to live his final days in a physical and moral suffering that inevitably appears in the hopeless patients, a mere semblance of life. I have just watched again his interview during the Raiperunanotte event of last spring (it’s below, and it’s in Italian, sorry): it is great how Monicelli was so lucid and wise in his analysis of the recent Italian developments. Maybe you could not agree with his pessimistic vision of the Italian society, however I have to say I completely agree with that, and I also agree with his idea that Italy can only be saved by a “revolutione: before a political one, a cultural revolution is however even more urgent, considering the condition of a people completely stunned by the Berlusconian media chloroform that has been polluting the Italian water for way too long. Grazie, Maestro.
