Still in power
15 December 2010 in PoliticsI am writing again of politics since a long time. Needless to say, I deeply hoped that Berlusconi might lose the no-confidence vote so he could disappear from the political scene, losing his office, his impunity and the arrogance he shows in all the media sanctuaries he takes part into. Unfortunately it did not happen, confirming that money is more powerful than ideas in Italy.
I have no trust in the future, I have lost it back in 2006 and I haven’t changed my mind now. We’re seriously in danger of a new electoral triumph for the populist coalition of Berlusconi and Bossi in 2011, and, even worse, a maybe-mafioso president in 2013. So avoiding such a populist, fascist, Northern, racist and authoritarian turn (unprecedented in modern Western democracy) and eliminating Berlusconi from the political scene should now be the top priority of our so-called opposition movements. There’s no time left: Italy’s fame in the world is low as hell, crisis is deeper and deeper and the country is going straight into bankruptcy. This is not the moment to consider taking “traditional” solutions, because Italy is not a normal country: I am personally convinced that we need a sacred alliance against Berlusconi in case of new election, with a platform of only five basic things: a new law on conflict of interests (to prevent Berlusconi from running for office again), a new electoral law (to ensure a fair method to select candidates and parties), fiscal consolidation, reform of the media system (to massively reduce Berlusconi’s unlimited media power), election of a new President of the Italian Republic who has to be different than Berlusconi himself.
Then, if you ask me if this is gonna happen for real, my answer is no: the reason is sample, Italian are too badly informed and too masochist to understand the seriousness of our current situation, in addition we have a list of opposition parties that just sucks. Democratic Party, Italy of Values, UDC, Fini’s guys (and, let me include, also Beppe Grillo’s hooligans, aka left-wing in Berlusconi-style), they’re all responsible of this terrible situation. Is it so hard to understand that democracy itself is in severe danger?
